Ronald McDonald House at Stanford was established in 1979 to provide a home-away-from-home and support for families of children with life-threatening illnesses receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. More than 70 percent of all families served are of low to moderate income, and many of the children of the families served are receiving organ transplants, chemotherapy, radiation, bone marrow transplants, orthopedic surgery, or other very specialized care at the Hospital.
Ronald McDonald House receives approximately four percent of its operating budget from the local McDonald's owner/operators. Another six percent comes from the nominal $10 nightly fee charged to those families who can afford it. The remaining funds, over 85% of the budget, needed to operate the House come from the generous support of individuals, foundations, and businesses through local fund-raising activities such as the Spring Lamb BBQ.
